Liberty High School Coach Paul Lardy Celebrates 250th Win

Thursday, March 19, 2026 Hillsboro - The Liberty Falcons took on Ida B Wells for their first home game of the 2026 season. After losing to the Guardians in their 2025 season opener, the Falcons were out for revenge. After 48 minutes of what started out as a close game, the Falcons took a commanding lead and finished 19-3 over Wells. The win pushes Liberty to 1-1 on the season, but more remarkably, this game represents the 250th career win for Paul Lardy, who has coached the Falcons since the school’s first varsity lacrosse season in 2005.

Lardy, a Forest Grove High School alumnus, didn’t start playing lacrosse until he attended college at University of Oregon. After graduating he played internationally in Australia, and later for the local Portland Lacrosse Club. It was during this time that he met Mark Flood, who was coaching lacrosse at West Linn High School. Paul was then introduced to Bill Rexford, the head coach at Glencoe High School. After being an assistant coach under Rexford for two years, Lardy took over the Glencoe program as the head varsity coach in 1998. Six years later he was offered a teaching position at the newly built Liberty High School. Justin Bell and Chad Stelling had established a dominant JV program during the school’s inaugural season in 2004. They remained as assistant coaches and helped Lardy lead the program to a league championship and state playoff berth in the school’s second varsity season.

20 years have passed, and Stelling and Bell have moved on to coach other programs, but Coach Lardy has remained at Liberty since that inaugural season in 2005. During his tenure at Glencoe he had already established himself as a successful head coach with a record of 55-35. At Liberty he has extended that record to 250-175. During the past two decades he’s led the Falcons to 8 league championships and 17 playoff appearances.

Thursday’s win over the Guardians was highlighted by Brody McFarland and Riley Brisson dominating the faceoff X, and breakout performances by attackmen Julian Ortiz (Sr, 2G, 4A) and Henry Madulak (So, 3G, 3A). Senior midfielder and team captain, Jaxon Rekow also had four goals and one assist. The Falcons next game is vs Bend-Caldera at home on Saturday March 21st. Scroll down to see photos...
