Principal Message 2024
August 5, 2024
Hello Liberty High School community, I’m Dennis Joule, and I am truly inspired by the opportunity to be your new Principal. I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself, tell you a little bit about my journey in education, and share what I value most as your Principal.
First, I am a small town kid from Fall City, WA. I moved to Oregon in 1990 to follow a soccer scholarship to Oregon State University. When I’m not working in schools, I spend as much time as possible with my wife and three kids. However, with my wife being a middle school teacher and my kids active in their school activities, schools are a big part of my life.
I started my career in education as a Special Education teacher on the island of Maui, teaching reading and writing to sixth graders. On my 26-year journey in education, I have served as a:
-
Health Teacher
-
Special Education Teacher and Instructional Assistant
-
Dean of Students
-
9th Grade Academy Teacher and Coordinator and
-
Assistant Principal
I am an outspoken advocate for the student experience. We need our students to see themselves as valued members of their school. This is exactly what can improve attendance, decrease unsafe behaviors, and increase engagement in academics. We ensure this by creating a wide range of ways for students to connect with their school.
In a thriving school community, there is not one element more important than another. The elements must be blended together to ensure that all members feel connected, supported, and valued.
In a closing thought, I want you to hear that I value trust as the foundation to all my efforts and interactions with you. I have learned that trust is earned over time and with experiences together. I value the partnership between the adults in the community and the school. Our relationship is vital to the experience…because our kids are watching and they are learning from us. As your Principal, I would ask that you hold me accountable and join with me to create an experience that inspires and encourages our students to pursue their academic and future goals. Go Falcons!
