Dual Language Program

At Liberty High School, we offer the Dual Language Program (DLP) in grades 9 through 12. Middle school DLP students (such as those feeding from Poynter Brown Middle School) continue their bilingual journey with opportunities to refine their language skills and achieve advanced academic proficiency. Our goal is to develop bilingual and bicultural students prepared for college and career success.

Program Benefits

  • Advanced Bilingualism & Biliteracy: Students refine complex reading, writing, and communication skills in both languages.

  • Academic & College Success: Students receive rigorous instruction, preparing for advanced placement/IB courses and post-secondary education.

  • Oregon State Seal of Biliteracy: Opportunity to earn an official diploma distinction that opens college and career opportunities.

Grade Levels Served

  • 9th – 12th Grade

What subjects are taught in Spanish?

At Liberty High School, DLP students take specialized courses in Spanish, which may include:

  • Advanced Spanish Language Arts (SLA / AP Spanish Literature)
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Other core subjects and electives are taught in English.

Oregon State Seal of Biliteracy Recognition

Liberty High School students who continue in the DLP through high school may earn the Oregon State Seal of Biliteracy by demonstrating high proficiency in both Spanish and English. This distinction is recognized on their diplomas and transcripts, opening valuable college and career opportunities.

Enrollment & Exit Process

Students enrolled in DLP in middle school are automatically enrolled in the high school program. Newly arrived Spanish-speaking students or students with advanced Spanish literacy can be assessed for placement. To initiate an exit process or program change, a meeting with the school counselor or principal is required.
